Friends,
It takes money to run a church. While it would be nice to believe that faith, dedication and community spirit can do it, the reality is that, without money, much of the church’s work would diminish.
That would mean that projects that support the vulnerable in our communities would stop. One example is the multicultural youth ministry in the diverse Bankstown community in Western Sydney, which is drawing together young people from Chinese, Lebanese, Tongan, Samoan and Anglo backgrounds to break down cultural divisions caused by fear and prejudice. Another is the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress project from Tingha, near Inverell in NSW, a ministry supporting Australia’s indigenous people and improving the lives of an entire community.
Fundamental elements of church life also require money. Buildings need to be bought and maintained in order to provide meeting places for congregations and work spaces for services. The people who deliver the spiritual life of the church – the Ministers and lay staff, Chaplains and Moderator - need to be educated, resourced and supported in their work.
And the church’s work is never ending; in fact, demand is increasing as difficult times see more and more people calling upon the church for support.
To meet this increasing need, the Directors and management of Uniting Financial Services are breaking new ground in 2010. We are further streamlining our operations and reaching out to new investors in order to maximise the return to The Uniting Church in Australia, Synod of NSW and the ACT.
Your role in this cannot be understated. Each additional dollar that church organisations and other investors entrust to Uniting Financial Services brings us closer to fulfilling mission and plans throughout the Synod.
The church’s need for income is constant, as is our determination to provide it. Please consider the opportunities presented by our interest rate offers and invite investors you know to consider them also. Every investment, large or small, helps.
