The Self Help Scheme is a great opportunity for members and friends to directly support their Uniting Church congregation.
Once a Self Help Scheme is established by a Uniting Church congregation, supporters simply open an at call Self Help Investment which foregoes interest to benefit their chosen Self Help Scheme.
Pymble Uniting Church is one congregation that has benefited from the Self Help Scheme, using Scheme income to make major improvements in access and parking at their church.
“We saw Self Help as an opportunity for members of our congregation to invest funds with Uniting Financial Services that would provide a benefit to the people of Pymble Uniting Church,” said Philippa Graham, Chairperson of the Pymble Property and Finance Committee.
Pymble’s Self Help income grew as more supporters joined the Scheme, and investors increased the balance in their Self Help Investments. “We initially tried to grow our Scheme to $500,000 to apply for a loan, and now it is over $700,000.”
As a result, church members and the community now have greatly improved facilities with easy access suitable for all members.
