John Collins - B.Comm
ChairpersonJohn has extensive experience in Credit and Risk Management from a banking career spanning over 40 years both in Australia and internationally. He was responsible for the design and implementation of the credit risk management framework and strategy for a number of financial institutions. He is also familiar with risks arising from the treasury operations of a banking institution.
Prior to becoming Bank of New Zealand Australia’s Chief Manager – Credit in 1990, John held a number of senior positions internationally including Standard Bank of South Africa Limited and Citibank NA. In 1996, he joined Export Finance and Insurance Corporation, the Australian Government’s export credit agency, as Chief Credit Officer, a position he held until late 2009.
Christine Feldmanis - BComm, MAppFin, SFFINSIA, FAICD, CPA, AGIA, JP
DirectorChristine started her career in chartered accounting and then used that preliminary skill set to continue a career in investment banking for 30+ years. During that time she has spanned both the Government and private sectors working for firms including Elders Finance, Bankers Trust and NSW TCorp , and has run her own consulting business. Her last two executive roles were as CFO of TCorp, and as Managing Director of Treasury Group Investment Services – the wholly owned AFS licencee within the ASX listed specialist boutique funds management business Treasury Group. Areas of specialisation include investment management, finance, accounting and risk management, legal & regulatory compliance, business building and governance.
Christine is currently a director of Hunter Water Corporation, Perpetual Equities Investment Company Ltd and FIIG Securities Ltd, also chairing the Audit and Risk Committees at each organisation.
DirectorRev. Jane Fry commenced as General Secretary of the Synod of NSW and the ACT on 1 September 2017. This followed five years as Associate Secretary of the Synod. Jane was ordained as a Minister of the Word on 28 November 1995 and since then has worked in a number of ministry settings, including congregational ministry, police chaplaincy and presbytery leadership. Her ministry experience has given her a very broad perspective on the opportunities and realities facing the Uniting Church today.
Jane believes that the vision and call of the Uniting Church presented in the Basis of Union remains as compelling and current as when it was first presented to the church. The particular challenge of telling and living the story of God’s reconciling love within and beyond our gathered communities is an essential witness in a divided and dividing world. Forming disciples with a passionate imagination, creativity and commitment to changing the world in God’s image is core business for the church in these times.
Karin Hawkins - B.Bus, M.A, M.PP, Dip Company Directors, AIM, GAICD
DirectorKarin has over 20 years experience in the financial services sector holding senior executive roles across a range of functions from strategy to risk management to sales in a variety of different types of organisations from regulators to mutuals to industry associations to the big four retail banks. Karin built an executive coaching and consulting practice specialising in leadership development and building high performance teams.
She has recently been appointed Executive Advisor for the Asia Pacific region at the Corporate Leadership Council where she advises ASX200 companies in applying the latest research on leadership and leveraging the power of people in business. Karin is a Director and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee for SGE Credit Union Ltd and chairs the Board for Critical Stages Ltd (a not-for-profit theatre company).
DirectorOver 30-years experience in banking, finance and insurance through leadership roles with major financial institutions in Sydney, London, Tokyo and Singapore. CEO and General Management responsibilities covering property & infrastructure lending, credit portfolio management, and providing risk investment solutions for fund managers and insurers. Significant experience on related credit committees, and as responsible manager for AFSL licencees.
Craig is a full time non-executive director which current roles include Chairman of BlueCHP Limited (specialist developer of affordable housing), non-executive director of Home4Life Ltd (specialist developer of disability housing under the NDIS) and Assured Guaranty Australia (local arm of NYSE-listed global credit risk insurer). Prior roles include non-executive director with the Future Business Council, and L. J. Hooker International Ltd.
DirectorJason has over 30 years involvement in internal audit and technology governance across wide number of sectors including finance, technology and transportation sectors. He has held senior roles in organisations such as Westpac, Allianz, National Rail Corporation, Ernst & Young and Grant Thornton. His consulting practice covers areas such as corporate and technology governance, strategic procurement and probity, internal and technology audit in both the public and private sector. Jason facilitates courses for the Australian Institute of Company Directors and other programs internationally. He is a Director of Celtaxsys Aus Pty Ltd, N8 Medical Australia Pty Ltd, a Councillor of the Medical Council of NSW (and a member of the Conduct and Governance subcommittees).
He is the Independent Chair of the Audit and Risk Committees for Wyong Shire Council and Cessnock City Council and an Independent Member of the Woollahra Municipal Council. Jason is a Fellow and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Certified Fellow of the Institute of Internal Auditors, Certified in Risk Management Assurance (IIA), Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (ISACA), Certified Fraud Examiner, Senior Member and Certified Professional of the Australian Computer Society and a Justice of the Peace in NSW.
Paul Mazzola - M.AppFin., B.Com., FCPA, SA Fin.
DirectorPaul Mazzola is a lecturer in banking and finance in the Faculty of Business at the University of Wollongong having served as its Associate Head of School Finance. Before he joined the University, Paul had a career in Banking, spanning over 20 years covering the Australian, European and Asian Pacific markets holding senior executive and regional management positions. Paul’s experience has involved corporate and investment banking, project and international trade finance, investment management and mergers and acquisitions. His research interests include banking and financial markets, risk management, and banking history. Paul has presented at domestic and international conferences and seminars and has a number of years’ experience in teaching and learning leadership roles with numerous teaching awards. Paul regularly contributes to a national radio program on money and finance and is frequently interviewed as an expert on banking by the media. In addition, Paul has consulted domestic and international organisations on strategy and organisational restructuring, has been a past State Chairman of the Turnaround Management Association of Australia and is a Fellow CPA and Senior Associate of FINSIA.
DirectorSharon has in excess of 20 years’ experience in senior and executive roles within the Property Industry. She has acquired this experience from the private and public sectors of the market and has worked for Lendlease, Westfield, Property NSW and the University of Sydney.
Sharon is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Licenced Real Estate Agent with experience in strategic asset management and funds management. She has worked in commercial, retail and industrial property portfolios. A comprehensive understanding of the financial, legal and political landscape effecting property and asset portfolios.
DirectorSuzanne Stanton is a Minister of the Word in the Uniting Church, currently serving the church in a Synod appointment working to resource Presbyteries to effectively oversight their congregations with respect to Mission and Property. Prior to ordination Suzanne gained experience in the fields of banking, accounting, finance and compliance in both the private and public sector. She has held roles at Macquarie Bank, the Insurance and Superannuation Commission and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation.
Suzanne understands her call into ordained Ministry as an opportunity to continue to use her past experience to equip the church for its future mission. She aims to utilise her formation for Ministry in her current roles by holding her faith and theological training alongside a passion for good governance and the faithful stewardship of resources.
Executive DirectorAs our Executive Director, Warren has overall responsibility to lead the team and oversee the operations of Uniting Financial Services. He commenced with us in January 2015, bringing extensive experience from his 30 years in the financial services sector, of which 16 years he led the global fixed income team at Colonial First State, managing cash, government securities and corporate bond portfolios for clients in Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and the UK.
Warren also continues to serve as an Independent Member of the Investment Committee for the Western Australian Government Employees Superannuation Board. He is well known in the industry for his writing on investment markets and he contributes a column on issues of faith and money for the Church’s Insights magazine.
Head of Strategy, Project and OperationsJohn has over 25 years of Investment Banking, Funds Management and Management Consulting experience and is responsible for supporting the Executive Director with strategy, new initiatives and operational activities. His most recent role has been Head of Investment Management for ACS Financial (the financial arm of Australian Christian Churches) where he was responsible for the treasury function of Australian Christian Churches’ balance sheet and CEO of Australian Christian Superannuation. John is passionate about serving the church with a deep interest in ethical investment and the financing of social justice programs.
Matthew Moore (B.Ec M.Comm)
Head of Ethical Investments – Treasury and InvestmentsMatthew has been a key member of the UFS investments team for 16 years, during which time he has been closely involved in directly implementing the Church’s Ethical Investment Policy. He was a Director of the industry representative organisation Responsible Investments Association of Australia (RIAA) from 2008 to 2013 and his current role titled Head of Ethical Investments, reflects Matthew’s passion for the Church’s commitment to ethical investment. In this role he oversees both the direct investments of the UFS balance sheet as well as managing relationships with the external managers that we use.
Chief Financial OfficerIan is responsible for ensuring the financial security of Uniting Financial Services, handling all financial matters and helping to drive the overall management and strategy. Core elements include providing commercially focused recommendations, business and performance advice to key stakeholders in addition to responsibility for the day to day management of financial and associated operational activities. Prior to joining Uniting Financial Services in 2017, Ian had over 20 years’ experience in the funds management and financial services industry. Ian has held senior finance roles including positions with Magellan Financial Group, BT Investment Management (now Pendal), Treasury Group (now Pacific Current) and MLC.
Head of Partner Solutions and SupportLinda took over leadership of the team in June 2018, after acting in the role for the previous 6 months. She has been with UFS since August 2006, working in partnership with various church entities in a number of different roles. This has meant she has gained a good understanding of the Uniting Church structure as well as the opportunities and difficulties faced by church organisations in achieving their financial goals. Linda enjoys building relationships and uses her expertise to assist in not just providing solutions, but also to identify potential issues in relation to the investment and lending strategies of our church partners. Prior to joining us, Linda had extensive experience in the Banking and Finance sector, including 30 years with the Commonwealth Bank in various roles.
Senior Lending AssociateAnna is a results driven professional with over 19 years of experience in the Banking and Finance sector. Anna commenced work at Uniting Financial Services in March 2015, she has also worked at National Australia Bank for 16 years and St George Bank for two years. Anna has an exceptional ability to build robust, loyal relationships and to develop networks to drive business success. Anna’s areas of expertise is business development, credit and risk analysis and relationship management. Anna has a Bachelor of Social Science and a Master of Commerce.
